This constitutes official notification of nomination and election of
Officers for TWU Local
In accordance with the Bylaws and the Constitution of our Union, the
term of office will
The Election Board will supervise this election under the following
procedures:
1.
Nominations shall be by petition. Petitions
must be received in the Post Office Box rented for that purpose by
October 31st.
2.
Nominations of Local Officers and Executive Board
Members shall require a minimum of twenty‐five (25) signatures of
members in good standing. All nominees with the required number of
signatures on the nomination petition shall be entitled to a place on
the ballot.
3.
Candidates for all offices will be eligible for
nomination for one office only. The person nominated to an office will
either accept or reject the nomination in writing prior to the making of
the ballots. The Election Board will confirm and certify candidates by
November 11th.
4.
Members in good standing may sign as many nomination petitions for
different candidates as they see fit. His/her name however shall appear
only once for each candidate.
5.
A member, to be eligible for nomination and election to any office, in
addition to all other requirements of the International Constitution and
these bylaws, and must have been a member in good standing in the Union
for the preceding year.
6.
The ballots for Local Officers and Executive Board
Members shall be prepared and mailed to all members in good standing on
November 14th. To be valid, ballots must be received in the Post
Office Box rented for that purpose no later than midnight of the 15th of
December. The ballots shall be removed From the Post Office Box by
the Election Board on the 16th of December and shall be counted and
attested to and announced on that day by the Election Board.
7.
To be considered valid, the ballot return envelope must have the
member’s name, address, and employee number clearly marked on the
outside.
8.
The Election Board has the sole responsibility for the printing,
storage, mailing, and counting of all election materials prior to the
finalization of the election. At no time will any parties involved in
the actual election handle or control any election materials prior to
the election’s finalization. In the event a member does not receive a
ballot in the mail he/she shall be able to obtain a second one by
submitting a written request to the Election Board. Upon receipt of such
a written request the Election Board must void the ballot number of the
first ballot and reissue a second. In the above instance the Election
Board Chairman may, instead of mailing it, opt to reissue the ballot by
hand.
9.
The elected Officers shall take the oath of office and assume their
duties at the January Executive Board Meeting.
The elected positions the membership will be voting on are as follows:
1.
President
2.
Northern Vice-President
(Candidate will be based in the Northern Region
and will be elected by a majority votes cast from the entire local.)
3.
Southern Vice-President
(Candidate will be based in the Southern Region
and will be elected by a majority votes cast from the entire local.)
4.
Financial Secretary‐Treasurer
5.
Northern Executive Board Member
(Voted on by 564 membership in SEA, SFO, and SJC
only.)
6.
Southern Executive Board Member
(Voted on by 564 membership in LAS, LAX, PHX, SAN,
SNA, and TUS only.)
7.
Executive Board Member‐Title Specific
(Title II, IV, & V only)
Nominations will be conducted as follows;
1.
Nominations will be by petition. Nomination petitions must be received
in the designated TWU Election Committee PO Box 2608 by 0900, Oct
31st, 2008. All interested candidates should use only the latest
nomination petition which can be downloaded at the Local’s website
http://www.local564.org/564 MASTER FILE/564 Form Folder/2008-08-26
ElectionPetition.pdf.
Only the latest form that is mailed to the PO Box will be
accepted by the Election Committee.
2.
Nomination petitions for the office will require a
minimum of twenty‐five (25) signatures of members in good standing, or
25% of the total headcount of those members in good standing from a
station which falls below the twenty‐five (25) member headcount
threshold.
3.
Each person nominated for any Local 564 Officer
position must sign the nomination petition in order to formally accept
the nomination and be placed on the ballot. The Local 564 Election
Committee will confirm, certify, and post the candidates’ names by
November 11th, 2008. The candidates’ names will also be posted on the
Local 564 website ( http://www.local564.org
) and Local 564 union bulletin boards at the workplace.
4.
Members in good standing may sign as many
nomination petitions for different candidates as they see fit. However,
his/her name will not appear more than once for each candidate.
5.
In accordance with TWU Local 564 Bylaws, nominees
must have been a member in good standing for the preceding twelve-month
period, commencing September 1st, 2008.
